2011 Russel Jones Elementary School, Rogers, Arkansas
Benchmark Literacy Scaled Score Average Growth
  • Teacher A brought some students to the Read and Ride program for 20 min. / 3 times per week.
    They showed an average of 113 points of growth.
  • Teacher A had a second group of students who did not participate in the Read and Ride program.
    They showed an average growth of 79 points.
  • Teacher B had all of her students participate in the Read and Ride program.
    They showed an average growth of 118 points.
  • Teacher C did not have any of her students participate in the Read and Ride program.
    They showed an average growth of 71 points.


2010 Ward Elementary School, Winston-Salem, NC
Reading Comprehension, as tested by the 2009-2010 NC End-Of-Grade results.
  • The three classes who attended the Read and Ride room the least (with 4, 5, & 6 visits during the year) scored 41% proficiency in Reading.
  • The three classes who had an exercise bike in their room (where students rode when they completed their classwork or as a reward) scored 55.5% proficiency in Reading.
  • The three classes who attended the Read and Ride room the most (with 29, 30 & 57 visits during the year) scored 83% proficiency in Reading.
  •  Overall, our Reading proficiency for third, fourth and fifth grade students was 61%.

2010 Ward Elementary School, Winston-Salem, NC
Reading Interest, as reported on pre and post survey in October 2009 and June 2010.
  • Students were asked, "Do you like to read?" and they were give the answers: Never, Sometimes, Most of the Time and Always.
  • The three classes who attended the Read and Ride room the least (with 4, 5, & 6 visits during the year) answered "Most of the Time" or "Always" 56% of the time.
  • The three classes who had an exercise bike in their room (where students rode when they completed their classwork or as a reward) answered "Most of the Time" or "Always" 71% of the time.
  • The three classes who attended the Read and Ride room the most (with 29, 30 & 57 visits during the year) answered "Most of the Time" or "Always" 89% of the time.
  • All students answered an average of 72% of the time.
  • Students were asked, "When you have time, do you like to read a book in class?" and they were give the answers: Never, Sometimes, Most of the Time and Always.
  • The three classes who attended the Read and Ride room the least (with 4, 5, & 6 visits during the year) answered "Most of the Time" or "Always" 54% of the time.
  • The three classes who had an exercise bike in their room (where students rode when they completed their classwork or as a reward) answered "Most of the Time" or "Always" 62% of the time.
  • The three classes who attended the Read and Ride room the most (with 29, 30 & 57 visits during the year) answered "Most of the Time" or "Always" 83% of the time.
  • All students answered an average of 67% of the time.
